This email should be landing in your mailboxes: Before I get into the last-minute details, I want to thank everyone who generously donated their time and money to make this event a great experience for all. In addition, for those who lost their yearbook (or their ex-spouse “lost it”), there is a nice surprise awaiting you.
Last Minute Details
Since the weather might be an issue, it’s wise to bring warm clothing – and remember, dress is casual! Although tables are available, this isn’t a sit-down affair. The winery’s bar is about the size of a four- or five-car garage. The patio is covered and, we’ve been told, has held weddings for 200 people. Outdoor heaters will be placed throughout the venue if needed.
If you are staying at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites at Herndon and Highway 99:
Pick up your name badge (with the extra-large font) and drink ticket at the reception table. Note: the drink ticket can be used at the bar inside for only one beer, wine, or soda – after that, you are on your own! Catering is provided by “Comfy Foods,” which will include bottled water and soda with your dinner.
One other thing, and this may just be me, but I drove past the winery entrance more than once. I think it is easy to miss because there isn’t much signage. On top of that, Google Maps and Google Earth place the winery in the middle of an orchard because the entire orchard and field are listed as 9400 N. Road 36. As you drive north on Road 36, you will reach their unpaved driveway on the left before Google navigation alerts you to your arrival. Since the winery has limited signage, we will put up our own. Also, there will be flashing orange lights on the fence, similar to those used to alert drivers to traffic issues. If you get lost, call me (Kevin Delaney) at 559-269-0645.
Although most of the following was originally written for the 40th Reunion, it is still applicable.
Okay, it’s the night of the reunion. You walk in, look around, and ask yourself, “Where are my friends? And why are their parents here?” To help you get started with meetings and greetings, your Reunion Committee has organized several lively, interesting, and educational sessions. You are not required to attend any of them, but be aware that you might get a mark on your permanent record if you don’t.
Topic
Description
Children and grandchildren review
Please have your uplifting & positive pictures, videos, and stories ready to share with other like-minded classmates. No more than five minutes per person, please.
How to tell your kids their kids are monsters
This can be tricky. There is no easy way to deal with grandchildren you can’t stand. After careful review and analysis, we recommend that you leave the country. Travel advisors will present options for your escape.
Reflexology
This isn't a class; it's a session with a reflexologist. We know that at our age, standing for more than 20 minutes can affect one’s attitude.
Job complaints
If you are employed, this is a good time to vent about your job. Tip: Take time to really drill down on those young whippersnappers in your office who think they know everything. A desk will be manned where you can practice abusive language on a younger person.
Aches and pains
In this session, you will have a chance to describe not only all of your aches and pains, but also how surprised you are to have them.
Searching for Memory Lane
We can’t remember exactly what this session was all about. Skip it.
Power Napping Secrets
This is a two-for-one: take a nap, and when you wake up, you’ll receive a flyer on how to nap in public without shame or fear.
Breaking Down Barriers
Not to be confused with social issues, this session was formerly titled “Practical Ideas for Constipation.” A live demonstration is planned.
Retirement complaints
If you’re retired, you are not allowed to complain. Don’t be absurd.
Weird growths
Do you have a weird mole? Lump? Dent in your head? Long hair growing in an odd place? Then this session is for you. Please keep your clothes on and bring pictures if needed.
Great vacations
Vacations are definitely of common interest. If you have pictures you can hand out, even better.
We now have 169 registered attendees! Check the list, and, if you are not on it, get on it!
